Monday Blues

So I've had a really shit week.

I have little words of my own today so instead thought I would share some lyrics
from the lovely Clare Bowditch & the feeding set.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a video so this will have to do.
It's a sweet, sweet melody and rings far too many bells for me.

The thing about Grief

The thing about grief is
It knows what I did and
It knows what I did not say.
It sentenced me to a life of excavating
The things my little head can not yet understand
But I patched it all together with string and rubber bands.

The thing about grief is
Few people know that the I comes beore the E
And it's hard to give away because it's
The last thing you gave to me.
I've scrambled it together and
Collaged it in a lighted frame
Sometimes I'm scared to speak your name.

Ooh you were young and beautiful
You should have grown to be old
Like I'll grow old - you will not
You left me to join the dots
I'm gonna speak them.

The thing about grief is
It took what I loved and it buried her deep away
It makes no sense but it's interesting in it's own way
Some days I still assume I'm gonna see your face again.
But I always assume.

The thing about grief is
It gets kind of boring for the people who don't yet know.
Your friends - some they will wander off and
Most will wish you'd just move on sister.
But black is the colour 'cause it
Doesn't seem to have an end
I've heard it changes
and you make new friends

Oooh - you were young and beautiful
You should have grown to be old
I will grow old, no you will not.
You left me here to join the dots.
I'm gonna speak them.

Fly free Wendybird... your nest shall forever be warm.

Sewing aliens on a Sunday

Whooooo it's Sunday again.
Sewing Sunday.

A dear friend of mine, Suzie, is expecting her first baby pretty much any day now.
This week I have decided to make her little girl a doll.

The problem is that traditional dolls are kind of a bit lame.
So I'm going to make her an alien doll!

For this project I gathered up,
  • 2 pieces of cute fabric (around 40x40 each)
  • 2 sheets of felt (whatever colour takes your fancy)
  • coloured thread
  • big ass needle
  • Polyester stuffing
As mentioned in past sewing projects, a sewing machine is pretty handy but you can
also sew by hand if you need to.

Okay so first step is to decide the shape of your extraterrestrial.
I went for your basic alien shape with 3 antennas.
Roughly draw it onto the back of your fabric with a pencil.
And I mean rough.
Trust me when I say that the wonkier your alien the better it will look.
Cut your shape.

Next step is to trace your alien out on to the back of your other chosen fabric.
Once you have cut both sides you can stitch the face on to the front
and any other details you want to add.

I chose to stitch on a face, eyes, mouth,  felt buttons and a bunny tail.
Yeah. A bunny tail. It's my alien creation and I'll put whatever tail on it I like.

The reason I decided on felt buttons was that this is, after all, a gift for an infant.
If I know nothing else about babies it's that they love the taste of real buttons.
And quite frankly I don't wish to be held responsible for any child swallowing a foreign item.

Pin your 2 shapes together so the insides are facing outwards.

Now sew both pieces together leaving the legs open at the ends
Once this is done you can now turn your creature out the right way and stuff the hell out of it.

A tip; you can't stuff a toy too tightly.
The more the better.
No kid likes a floppy doll.
They are going to love and squeeze the shit out of that thing so make sure it's firm.

Now all that's left to do it stitch up the feet.

And it's done! You are now a toy master of non lame dolls!
Pat yourself on the back.

Ta daaaaa.

I can't wait to meet the baby girl that this doll is meant for.
She is going to have amazing parents that are way cooler than pretty much everyone else I know.
All I can say is that she is going to be one lucky chicken.

Snap snap

A few years ago I started an Instagram account.
Then I forgot about it.
Until about two weeks ago when I suddenly got into it.
Now I really love it!

My favourite part of facebook is when people put up photos so Instragram and yours truly were bound to be best friends.
It's just photo after photo after photo.

As I'm semi obsessed I decided to share a few on here too.
