So a couple of weeks ago I decided to take on a little food challenge. Vegan for a week. When typed out it quite simply involves no red meat, no chicken, no fish/seafood, no dairy products and no eggs. Easy peasy. For a few years now I have eaten these forbidden food items but before that I was a strict vegetarian for 12 years. So basically what I'm getting at is this originally didn't seem like a big fucking deal.
BUT. After a bit of research it is.
Do you have any idea how many things contain dairy (in particular), seafood and meat products?!! I have never done so much back of jar/packet label reading in my life.
Grocery shopping was rather exhausting.
Once we got home though I felt quite satisfied with all our vegan shopping loot. Without any animal products. We loaded the cupboards with odd bits & pieces, as well as the refrigerator.
But it's a false sense of accomplishment isn't it?
At this point I'm really starting to think that this week might not be an easy as I first thought.
One thing I'm surprised at is that wine, beer & spirits aren't necessarily vegan.
What the fuck right?
My world began to crumble around me. No wine?
Luckily for me (and I suppose all the actual full time vegans) there is a helpful site that is able to give you a list of vegan alcohol yewww!
I landed on this.
Rather ironic that the label is sporting a fish don't you think?
My world for the time being has been restored.
So yep, this is my my eating and living challenge for the next 7 days. I'll try and update during the week with meal photos, cravings, thoughts and such.
Wish me luck!
What a great challenge...good luck!
